About 2.37am this morning, Monday, April 29, emergency services were called to Walker Street, Casino, following reports of a fire.
At the scene, a laundromat was found to be well alight, with the fire rapidly spreading to a restaurant nearby.
Flames and smoke were coming out of the front and the roof of the building.
FRNSW initially responded three fire trucks with twelve fire fighters.
Crews worked in breathing apparatus with hose lines to control and extinguish the fire from two sides and to protect nearby exposures.
Firefighters called for an RPAS (drone) out of Grafton to get an aerial advantage of the fire to better understand the structure and where the hot spots were in the building.
At 5.37am the fire was under control, but numerous hot spots exist which are difficult to extinguish due to the collapsed roof and walls.
The building has been extensively damaged and is being assessed by engineers from Public works with the assistance of FRNSW RPAS (drone).
Crews from Casino, Lismore, Goonellabah Hazmat, Ballina, Grafton Hazmat, Coffs Harbour Rehab van attended.
No injuries have been reported to police as a result of the fire.
Operations are ongoing until the fire is completely extinguished.
