A dozen or more fire trucks are attending to an incident at Lismore's tip.

The fire started in a pile of mattresses.

A spokesperson for Lismore City Council said:

"A fire started at the Lismore Recycling Recovery Centre earlier today (Friday)

"The fire is located at an outside area, and emergency services are in attendance to contain and

extinguish the fire.

"The fire has occurred within a pile of flood-affected mattresses that were transported to the site as

part of flood clean up activities, and were due to be transported off site in the coming days.

"The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage."
