Council asks people to register for flood waste pickup in Lismore

Updated May 4 2022 - 10:06am, first published April 29 2022 - 4:06pm

UPDATE: The council has clarified its announcement about flood waste pickup, saying it will continue, but people now need to register for pickup.

The process for residents and businesses to have their flood waste removed is changing.

People who still have flood waste to be picked up need to ring Council on 6625 0500 to let us know, rather than simply putting it on the kerb.

Public Works Advisory will continue to collect flood waste but are managing the workload and their contractors differently as the amount of rubbish to be collected reduces.

Any waste already on the kerb will be collected. The change from today is that Council now needs to be told of any new flood waste that is placed out for collection so that we can inform Public Works Advisory.

To date more than 100,000 tonnes of flood waste has been removed from affected communities throughout the Northern Rivers with over 20,000 truckloads required to undertake this task.

We thank the community for its patience as we continue to clean up Lismore.

Public Works Advisory, which has been co-ordinating Lismore's flood clean up, has advised of the final stages of the flood clean-up for the Lismore Local Government Area.

From April 30, no further flood waste should be placed on kerbsides.

More stories:

Anyone with flood waste that still needs to be collected after that date should must phone 6625 0500 to register their details and these will be taken into account as the final clean up is undertaken.

If you have already registered flood waste at your property, you do not need to register again unless that flood waste has already been cleaned up and you require a subsequent flood waste collection. Failure to register flood waste for collection promptly may result in the owner having to make their own arrangements for collection and disposal at a later date.

BUILDING WASTE

No building waste should be being dumped at the kerbside.

Property holders undertaking building repairs must make their own waste collection and disposal arrangements.

This could be material in peoples' homes or piles of material already out on the road's edge.
