To mark International Day of People with Disability, Lismore City Council will be highlighting some of the services it provides to create better accessibility within the community.

One service offered by the council is the free use of an All-Terrain/Beach Wheelchair, which is kept at the Goonellabah Sports and Aquatic Centre.

The wheelchairs are equipped with large, wide wheels which can roll across the sand without sinking.

Families are encouraged to book early and remember an individual using the chair is required to be accompanied by a support person.

It is highly recommended the chair be used in environments where it is safe to do so i.e. patrolled beaches and access friendly walking tracks.

Bookings are essential and need to be made at least 48 hours in advance.

To book, phone 6625 5370. It can be picked up seven days a week from GSAC at 50 Oliver Avenue, Goonellabah.

International Day of People with Disability is on Saturday, December 3.
