The Lismore Lismore Housing Expo was held last weekend, and one of the topics discussed was the Lismore Housing Grant program - how it works and who is eligible.
The program will provide grants of $15,000 to eligible landowners to stimulate the construction of new affordable housing opportunities.
A total of 80 grants are available on a 'first-come-first-serve' basis until such time as the $1.2 million of available funds is fully committed.
There are six categories available for the housing grants, meeting the needs of people from a wide range of circumstances within the Lismore LGA.
For this category, landowners must either: provide evidence that they are within the 'low' to 'moderate' income definition.
It will allow existing landowners to build a second dwelling on their land, as well as, first home buyers who purchase vacant land to build any new home.
For flood affected homeowners, the grant will be provided to people who want to relocate their existing house - including those who have accepted a buyback offer - to another site within the Lismore LGA.
To be eligible, the applicant must demonstrate they have accepted an offer of a buyback from the NSW Reconstruction Authority and that they do not own any other residential property.
Any registered Community Housing Provider or Indigenous Community Housing Organisation who builds new housing within the Lismore LGA and developers who commit to have housing managed by a CHP for a minimum of 15 years as affordable rental housing, will also be eligible.
A spokesperson from the council, said: "You will then receive a letter within 30 days confirming if you have been accepted (or not) for the grant program".
