Thousands of school students across Australia have taken to the streets to call on the federal government to take more action on climate change. Organised by School Strike 4 Climate Australia, the protesters want the Morrison government to do more to protect the climate, land and water, and create jobs by growing the nation's renewable energy sector and backing First Nations solutions to protect Country. The May 21 strike called on the Prime Minister and his government to stop throwing money at gas after it was announced more than half a billion would be spent on building a gas-fired power station in NSW. Scott Morrison arrived in Launceston on Friday morning, but he did not attend the strike in that city. Co-ordinator of the Launceston rally Esther Godfrey told The Examiner she hoped the message for climate action would be heard by politicians at a national level. It is believed 232 Palestinians, including 65 children, were killed and more than 1900 wounded in aerial bombardments. Israel said it had killed at least 160 combatants. In the countdown to the ceasefire at 2am (0900 AEST), Palestinian rocket salvos continued and Israel carried out an air strike. And in Royal news, Prince William has called for a BBC interview with his mother, Princess Diana, to never be aired again after a scathing report found a journalist for the broadcaster falsified documents to secure the interview. Prince William accused the BBC of failing his mother and poisoning her relationship with Prince Charles. During the 1995 Panorama interview, Diana admitted to having an affair and shared details of her marriage to the heir to the throne. It was watched by more than 20 million viewers in Britain. Diana died in a car crash in Paris in 1997, aged 36. Did you know you can receive this daily digest by email? Sign up here THE NEWS YOU NEED TO KNOW:
