Work has begun on the Murwillumbah end of the trail and Tweed Council invited members of the NRRT team to check out the surface.
"We can confirm it is looking good," the group posted on Twitter.
"It is still under construction, not open to the public yet. We can't wait."

Tweed Shire Council is on track and expecting completion of its section of the trail by the end of 2022.
Project Director Ian Lonsdale said the initial 24km Tweed section will link Murwillumbah Railway Station with the Tweed Regional Gallery and travel south through the villages of Stokers Siding, Burringbar, Mooball and Crabbes Creek.
Richmond Valley Council is also pushing ahead with the Casino to Bentley section of the rail trail and Page MP Kevin Hogan announced in October last year $9.9 million funding to build the Bentley to Lismore section of the trail.
The hold outs are Byron Council, but incoming councillors elected on December 4, may be more enthusiastic about the project than previous incumbents.
The rail trail should bring thousands of tourists to the Northern Rivers for a very different type of experience opening up the interior of the region.
