The club sits on the edge of the Wilsons River on Anzac Cl, with the flood levee forming one wall of the old dining room.
The building was originally a maternity hospital, with many on social media commenting they were born there.
While the RSL Club predominantly provided a space for returned servicemen to feel supported, many remember dancing or seeing top Australian bands in the auditorium, having meals with family, playing a game of bowls, or swimming in the pool.
RELATED STORIES:
The RSL Club closed in 2004 after going into receivership, becoming home to a childcare centre and other community service groups.
More recently, it was home to First Steps Early Learning Centre.
But now, that's over.
Piles of rubble sit where the dining room once stood, and machinery sits atop the first floor of the building.
The facade still stands, but not for long. A demolition team are in town to remove the rest of the brickwork.
Floodwater inundated the building on February 28, and was believed to have caused structural damage to the brickwork.
It is believed the building may be rebuilt to house a new childcare centre, but for now, the people of Lismore are left with memories of times spent at the club and a sadness over what the flood has taken from the community.
