United came up against Cudgen Hornets in a game that showed the Northern Rivers just how good local footy is.
It was a high scoring affair and Oakes Oval was certainly pushed to its limits.
United scored four tries to Cudgen's five, but just weren't able to pull themselves over the line.
Hezekiah Mckenzie and Allan Mckenzie both showed how much ticker they have, scoring a try each and keeping United's finals hopes alive till the final siren.
Despite losing, it is not all doom and gloom for United.
Earlier this year, Djaan Jarret said that the club is in a phase in its life where they are rebuilding and developing a good culture.

This culture shift occurred three years ago and saw the club increase its level of professionalism and discipline towards the way they approached games.
The team's goal was to remain in the top five by the end of the season. However, the most important thing for the club president was that off-the-field the club is healthy and strong.
They have certainly achieved this and have done more than make the community of Lismore proud.
The women's tackle side took out the inaugural Open Women's Premiership, defeating Lower Clarence in a brutal grand final hit out.
For all the Northern Rivers footy heads out there, don't worry the season still lives on for some, and there are some exciting events on the horizon.
The Hornets take on Bilambil this Sunday in a 'do or die' game, that will decide who takes on Ballina in the grand final.
The game will be played at Bilambil East Sports Field and is set to be one to remember.
Between September 15-17, the Local Aboriginal Rugby League Carnival will be held in Lismore.
Keep an eye on Northern United's socials for more details.
Draw dates, times and venues to be played on are still to be announced.
