This week, we caught up with Ella Bortolin for our Relax profile in this week's paper. As Ella celebrated her 99th birthday, her family and friends reminisced about her long life.
It's a fascinating story of how at 7 she left her home in Italy to forge a new life in Australia with her family.
That life revolved around banana farms, bait shops, and most importantly, family.
It certainly has been a life well lived.
We also have a feature story coming up on Isaiah Bell, who has faced many challenges in his 17 months of life. Despite this, he greets the world with a gorgeous big smile.
Isaiah is an inspiration to all who meet him, and his bravery is being recognised with an Our Kids Bravery Award on the weekend.
Pick up a paper on Saturday to read more about this courageous little guy.
You can also drop in to the Clarence Property Our Kids Day Out on Sunday, May 5 from 9am - 2pm at Missingham Bridge Amphitheatre in Ballina.
The day is shaping up to be a lot of fun for the whole family with a range of live entertainment, including Newcastle Permanent presenting the main show 'Elmo and Cookie Monster' at 10am and 12pm.
Also on the weekend, don't miss Nimbin's annual rally to decriminalise cannabis. Events kick off on Friday and continue through the weekend.
The Kombi Konvoy, Great Green Cabaret, Hemp Olympix, and Hemp Expo are some of the highlights, but the drawcard event will be the Mardi Grass Parade at 2.30pm on Sunday. Check it out!
