Kingaroy’s Glenvillan Pastoral Company has again dominated the Hayes and Co Silverdale Show and Sale. The 11th annual event which was staged by the Harrisville based agency and sponsored by Beaudesert Times, saw 1200 head of cattle presented to buyers on Friday. From the high quality yarding of mixed descriptions – mainly feeder steers and heifers and yearling steers and heifers under 350kg – emerged the grand champion of the show, a thick-bodied, Limousin x Charbray steer owned by Jamie Crawford and Nicky Hansen of Glenvillan Pastoral Co, Mannuem via Kingaroy. Silverdale has been a happy hunting ground for the Crawford’s, who have produced five champions and five grand champions in six years of showing at the venue in addition to other class winners. Representing the family at the show was Allan Crawford who said he was pleased to make the trip down for the event. “These are high quality steers and they definitely deserved to win,” he said. Jack Travers of Teys Australia said it was his first time judging at the Silverdale Show. “It was a very close competition and any number of entrants could have won,” he said. “All the animals were well presented and considering the season we’ve had it is a credit to everyone who entered.” Mr Travers said the grand champion was a cut above the rest. “It was a just a fantastic yielding carcass, they have done a great job on such little feed,” he said. Glenvillan Pastoral also took out the reserve champion of the show, while Doug and Louise Gelhaar of Ingoldsby, won the Jack Hayes Memorial (winner of class 20 - pen of six pasture fed bullocks) and the most successful vendor bred exhibitor of the show. Hayes and Co Director Peter Hayes said it was a wonderful turnout of exhibitors. “It’s great to see so many familiar faces and even a couple of new ones here at the show,” he said. More than 400 Feeder Steers between 350kg and 500kg were shown while more than 100 Feeder Heifers between 350kg and 450kg were exhibited. The next Silverdale sale will be held on March 22.
